In reply to the discussion: Excellent FB post by Rick Steves [View all]Very well said. I am closing in on 74 and very much share your perspective. It is truly heartbreaking to see the sense of optimism we have carried so tattered and under assault.
In his "Beyond Vietnam" speech in 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. famously called the United States "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world".
Yet he passionately believed we could overcome.
He was an optimist and I give him a lot of credit for my stubborn optimism through the years.
