Reporter: What is your thought on the ban of foreign students, you were one of those kids, right?
Musk: “I think we want to stick to talking about spaceships.”
Reporter: I was told that any topic is good.
Musk: “Well no.”

Translation of what Musk said: I do not agree with the ban of foreign students, but I decline to say anything about it, because that might get me in trouble with Trump."

I think he wants to avoid getting put on Trump’s enemies just, because he knows very bad things can come of that. Which I kind of understand, but the fact that he did not recognize the danger of getting so deeply involved with Trump in the first place proves he is nowhere near as smart as some people think he is. (I'm sure the drugs didn't help, either.)

People who are obscenely rich can start to think they're invulnerable and can get away with anything, because their money will always protect them. I think Eloon may be realizing that is not necessarily the case for people who get on Trump's bad side, and he wants to avoid that fate. I hope he does not succeed.
