(1,250 posts)The deli workers in the supermarkets in the Ralph's/Food 4 Less grocery chain; the Von's/Safeway/Albertson's grocery chain where I shop at in Los Angeles never get the orders correct unless they are specifically instructed as to how to go about preparing and packaging the orders. Most are, at best,
high school graduates, others can barely speak English. Almost all of them are negligent and careless and pretty much don't give a shit about what they are doing. You don't know what you are talking about -- they don't receive "minimalist" paychecks. They are Unionized employees. In April 2022, a new contract for unionized grocery workers in Los Angeles, including at Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions, resulted in significant wage increases for most workers, ranging from 19% to 31% above previous pay levels. The highest-paid, long-term employees received a raise of $4.25 per hour, bringing their hourly wage to $26.75, while lower-paid deli workers and shelf stockers saw a $5.25 per hour increase to a wage of $22.27. Bagger and clerk's helpers also received a 95-cent raise, bringing their hourly wage to $16.34. Additionally, part-time employees were guaranteed a minimum of 28 hours per week.
