Recovery implies that there was something recoverable so that wouldn't make sense. It has to be Rehab or intervention, but then intervention would require a group of sane people who care about him closely. Rehab looks like the only choice.

If I had written all of this 20 years ago, people would have been laughing at how extreme I was. No one would have considered my story plausible. They would have written me off as a loon and a poor writer with weak world building.
