(8,406 posts)I thought of this in 2020--if you remember, we had an economy that was still tanked, and a vaccine that wasn't widely distributed, so Washington sent us money. Specifically, economic stimulus checks for $500. I've forgotten why I got two, but my first thought was: Now, what would annoy him most if he knew how I was spending it? So I sent one incentive to the county food bank, and the other to the local library. Recently, I had a chance to support a temporarily legal immigrant, so I spent money there too. These little economic actions do not take the country back, but they help ordinary people get through another day of vicious capitalism and politically retaliatory government. If your means allow, why not try sending some funds to the ACLU, or any organization that will be on the front lines of this effort?
The sky may or may not be falling, but we can try to hold up the clouds over the people who are going to take the brunt of this attack: Immigrants, women, black and brown people, LGBTQ people. And if your local paper still takes LTTEs, send one in. We don't know how much good any of this will do, but on the other hand, it can't hurt either.
