It wasn't until weeks later that he became ill. It was after returning from a morning walk in the rain and apparently not changing his clothes when he got back.


Of course that's probably a coincidence since we know that being out in the cold doesn't make you sick, instead it's viruses or bacteria. Also consider that the cutting edge medical care of his day was stabbing you to let the bad blood out.

It he'd had some antibiotics he'd probably have finished his term.
