I work in the criminal justice system and have reviewed thousands of hours of dash cam and body cam footage. Gotta say this cop did everything right. It was a justified stop. The officer was courteous and respectful. The officer accurately and calmly explained the situation to the suspect. The officer gave the suspect an opportunity to comply.

If the guy was going to kill himself, why not back away to safety and let him kill himself or drive off to be apprehended later? I know that is super naive but, do you shoot someone for trying to kill themselves? It reminds me of cops showing up to a mental health situation and shooting the person. I also think it was an excellent video. That is only a question about police practices.

I wouldn't gamble my life on his threat to shoot himself being truthful. Neither would the cop.
