Let's talk about the GOP saying Trump's economic speech fell flat for the obvious reason.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about the GOP, saying Trump's economic speech fell flat for the obvious reason.

Last week, Trump gave his prime time speech, which focused heavily on the state of the economy, which Trump simultaneously attempted to paint as both a good economy and the fault of Biden. Also, it's a hoax. You would think the blatant contradictions in his talking points and how those talking points contradicted reality would be the problem, but it's not. Let's be real, Trump never really had a problem using talking points that are at odds with reality, and much of his base has never really had a problem accepting them.

Whit Ayres, who is a Republican pollster, had a pretty low review of Trump's performance. He said, "I don't think it will go down in the pantheon of greatest presidential addresses. I don't know if it will persuade anyone who wasn't already persuaded."

But the real question is why? Why can't he stick the landing on this? One Republican told the press, "It's the right idea to talk about the economy more, but the execution was abysmal." He's a very effective salesman when his heart is in it or when he's on the attack. But the I feel your pain speech. He just doesn't have that club in his bag.

The establishment billionaire doesn't have empathy. Say it isn't so. I'm shocked. Shocked, I say. And a very working class, relatable golf analogy to go with it. Good stuff.

People feel the economy in a way that can't be ignored, like other issues that realistically go against his base's core beliefs. It's hard for them to engage in double think or agree with the party line that 2 + 2 equals 5, especially when they go to the checkout counter and the register doesn't use party math and the chocolate ration has in fact not gone up. He can't feel their pain because he literally doesn't feel their pain. He and his friends are doing great. Since party math doesn't apply anywhere except virtue signaling on social media, it's hard for them to swallow the idea that it's a golden age.

For a long time, Trump's base would defend anything he said, no matter how ridiculous. They'd always say he didn't mean what he said or it was a joke. An unintentional by-product of that is coming back to bite him right now. since his base had to defend all the things he said as jokes. They remember all the things he said.

A year into his presidency and the economy is getting worse, not better for his base. Most of whom are on the bottom of the K-shaped economy while he and his friends are saying they're doing great. Maybe that leads them to remember some of those jokes. They might think back to him making the joke that "I don't care about you. I just want your vote." Some of them may be coming to grips with the idea that it absolutely was a joke, but they weren't in on the joke and in fact, it was on them.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
