WATCH: Sen. Slotkin questions Hegseth in confirmation hearing - PBS NewsHour

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich. questioned Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth in a confirmation hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Armed Services.

Slotkin asked whether Hegseth believed there were some directives the president could give that would violate the U.S. Constitution and whether or not he would carry out such an order. He responded saying he rejected the notion that President-elect Donald Trump would give illegal orders.

"I'm not gonna get ahead of conversations I would have with the president. However, there are laws and processes inside our Constitution that would be followed," he said.

Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military. - Aired on 01/14/2025.

Hegseth is a real POS. Sadly the Repukes will confirm. I expect he'll be run out of office under an ethical cloud.

And it was obvious that he'd met with all the Republican senators previously, but the Democrats were questioning him for the first time - and the differences in their questioning of Hegseth and their reactions to him were completely opposite. He kept bringing up his allegiance to his "Commander in Chief" - who never served due to his "bone spurs" - and called our military "losers and suckers."

distraction by the nominee. Only someone with a great deal to hide would respond the way he did, and talk over the questioner to an unacceptable level.
