Women's college basketball is on fire right now. Last season, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, and others helped bring in massive audiences. They led college hoops in stats, popularity, and wins. However, they aren't the first to make an impact.
A'ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA champion and three-time WNBA MVP, helped change the game at the University of South Carolina. She already has a statue on campus and will be further immortalized by getting her jersey retired.
The ceremony will be on February 2 before the Gamecocks face Auburn.
Before getting drafted by the Las Vegas Aces, Wilson was the first four-time All-American for South Carolina and was the 2018 National Player of the Year. She led the Gamecocks to an NCAA National Championship (2017). Wilson is also the all-time leading scorer (2,389 points) in program history.
