Valkyries expansion pick Maria Conde to miss inaugural season with leg injury
Golden State Valkyries expansion draft pick Maria Conde will likely miss a year of action after sustaining an injury playing in a EuroLeague game in Prague on Tuesday.
Conde, whom the Valkyries selected from the Chicago Sky, suffered a non-contact injury to her left leg while playing for ZVVZ USK Praha against Casademont Zaragoza.
After falling, Conde limped to the locker room with the help of assistant coaches and teammates and was in tears before returning to the bench in a wheelchair.
Conde came down awkwardly after shooting when her left ankle collapsed, and she could not put weight on that leg. Condes agent, Lluis Tunez, told the Chronicle that the injury appears season-ending and would require 8-12 months of recovery after surgery.
We are in close contact with Maria, her agent and her medical team as she undergoes further evaluation, the Valkyries said in a statement to the Chronicle.
