Weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth

This seems to be the reaction of some to Pope Francis' words, even words of great kindness and support for the disadvantaged. Even "home truths" spoken to the Church hierarchy living a comfortable life. The more magnanimous the words, the louder the wailing.

Why is this? To me, this kind of reaction is often based on fear. If that were the case, fear of what?

Afflicting the comfortable. When Pope Francis said that unbridled capitalism was A Bad Thing, Rush Limbaugh called him a Marxist. (Of course, Limbaugh's knowledge of actual Marxism almost certainly approaches zero as a limit.)
