DU Community Help
Related: About this forumIssue with "Share" option to Facebook. Please help
Hi.
I am finding that when I share a DU article to Facebook using the buttons available, the share picks up a comment in the thread of the post and uses that as the header for the Facebook post. Frequently, it is absolutely NOT what I am trying to share.
Any thoughts on the cause and way to fix my problem? Has anyone else noticed the issue or am I the only one who shares DU posts on Facebook?

(23,751 posts)I think we got it taken care of. The issue was that previously a small DU logo was supposed to show up as the attached image when sharing to Facebook, but Facebook changed something which made it stop working.
After that change, when a thread got shared to Facebook, instead of showing the DU logo, it would try to find any other image that was on the page. Sometimes it might be a relevant image, but other times it would grab something irrelevant, or if there were no images on the page it might even try to use an avatar or a sig line.
So we fixed it so that a standard DU image will now appear every time you share something to Facebook. Thanks to whatever Facebook changed, this image now has to be larger than the old one, but at least it will no longer grab something completely irrelevant and attach it to whatever you are sharing.

(1,014 posts)Frequently, DU people enter posts that put in links to several different sources so it's really important to have fixed this problem regarding Facebook. When I copy and paste, Facebook plays its own games with the information.
And, why do I post to Facebook? It is my effort to spread the word of what is happening as much as I can. It is the reason that Heather Cox Richardson and Mary Geddry use Facebook also. It's one of the tools of communication. We are in a battle for our democracy and way of life at this time and, I feel, that we need to use all of the tools in our arsenal that we can.
DU is a great resource. I can't thank you enough for the good work that you do!!!
