There are an increasing number of posts and comments that are simply images posted from Imgur. Many of us in the UK cannot see them, even if using mobile data as opposed to WiFi. Anyone who is blind using a screen reader may have no idea what the image is either. Can someone either provide alt-text or context? Or some workaround?
I realise its a lot to ask for the handful of us this might effect, but theres an increasing number of posts that for some of us just appear as blue boxes, or for the blind, Im not sure what their screen reader does. Its incredibly annoying. I get that this is an Imgur thing, but its also just a total lack of context - and more importantly- and accessibility issue.
Has been going through some changes (not good ones) recently. I'm thinking what ever is happening to UK users is happening at their end, not Imgurs end.

(23,674 posts)the only workaround I can think of is to use a VPN and set your location to somewhere inside the US when using DU. If you need help doing this, let me know (tell me what kind of browser you're using as well).
Imgur is a third party service so unfortunately there's nothing we can do to make their images functional if they are choosing to block service in the UK.

(26,082 posts)Unlike most other VPN providers, Riseup does not log your IP address.
It's free and easy to install and use. No logins etc, and you get to choose an end-point.
RIseup offers other privacy-focused services.

There are other VPN's out there. You gotta shop around.

(106,425 posts)or the .is or whatever other domains it also appears on. If you copy the URL of the image, and then submit it to the "My url is alive and I want to archive its content" box, it will archive everything needed to reproduce the imgur page with the image, and is then accessible from the UK. But this does take a couple of minutes - it does all kinds of bits and pieces around the central image.
