DU goes to Home Page after entering "Post".

This has been going on for three days. I will type up a post. Hit enter "Post" and it goes to the Home Page. My work is then lost.

It just what one chooses to use and doesn't have problems with.

The worldwide market share for Firefox is only about 6%, very few people use it.

and why are you being so unnecessarily combative to other DUers describing a technical issue they are experiencing-- beyond merely mentioning it is not a problem for you?

Although I do have a theory, it seems that all the people that are having issues are Apple users. And as we all know, Apple products do not play well with the Internet.

Not sure why you are so amused. I happily do have an iPad and an iPhone. So, what? It is not germane to the issue I am experiencing--even if some of the others affected are having it occur on Apple products.

Also, on an (I assume) unrelated note, I've noticed many user avatars missing.

Right now I see a peace symbol for you, but only when I'm replying to a post!
The avatar will disappear in the thread!

Maybe it is when I hit Preview. I swore it was also when I hit Post.

I don't see any avatars in this thread (except for my own) but when I hit "Reply" I can see your Kamala avatar.

When I am bounced to the homepage after hitting "Preview" I hit the browser back button and am returned to the (empty) message composition screen. I always hit "Preview" before I hit "Post."

I have lost typing when submitting a preview or post and it hangs up but I can USUALLY back arrow to get my form and typing back, but not always.

I use GhostText extension with firefox, safari and opera on the desktop computer. It mirrors my text in a text editor, which NEVER loses typing. It is complex to set up but free and open source. It freezes the text when I preview, because a new html form comes up. I am OK with that. Extra copies are easy to erase and beat the hell out of none.

Network problems happen and are tough to diagnose and document.

I see no way to make the DU form more robust.

If something is very long, copy your text and paste it into a text editor or email. Or vice versa. Create a text document and paste it in, but editors don't know DU's markup codes for bold, italic, excerpt and so on.

It's almost like I hit the "back" button instead of "post".

I kept think I did something wrong, but it keeps happening.

Thanks for the info about GhostText. They probably have it for Chrome.

No way to back arrow and get it back. Because it is not "hanging," I do not think it is a network problem, but a DU issue. But I will try the Ghostext extension as that might make it less frustrating.

That I lose a really long reply with links to answer someone's specific question is really frustrating and given time constraints, I usually just give up. That makes me feel really guilty because for one, it was someone needing help with something.

Well, I hope it can be fixed. This one is far more important than the avatar issue, but I hope admins will address that eventually too.

deride you for even mentioning the problem. I see multiple people experiencing similar so it is not an individual issue. I hope Elad/Earl G can fix it though because I'm sure it will be frustrating for the many long unsuccessful posts (sure to come) about the inauguration.

One thing you might want to try as a temporary fix is browsing DU from https://upload.democraticunderground.com whenever possible, because it's possible that this is to do with a communication issue between our servers (note that if you use https://upload.democraticunderground.com, you should also see avatars).

Aside from that, we'll take a look into this.
