We have a smart TV and I watched it in 3D-- pretty cool.
But Bullock was just another damsel in distress-- spectacular, badass, edge at your seat, expensive CGI distress -- looked really, really cool in 3D --who dashed in and out of her spacesuit down to her skivvies and panted a lot and apparently needed a hallucination to motivate her.
I'm disappointed. Plus, the science was bad.
Now I'm gonna watch a GOOD bad movie, like Pitch Black with Vin Diesel.

(25,699 posts)Watch "Riddick" instead - same damn story, but much prettier.

(42,550 posts)I watch "Riddick" on a semi-regular basis.
I hear they're making a sequel

(25,699 posts)I love that he's a huge nerd, and that the stated intent of "Chronicles" was to write "Conan in space."
I like the franchise so much that I even bought the video games... can't PLAY them for shit, but hey!

(17,455 posts)Sigourney Weaver was so empowering for me

(42,550 posts)I should watch that one too . In fact I should watch all the equals--I'm a helpless "Alien" nerd

(25,699 posts)As bad as "Resurrection" was, Prometheus is sort of... the Highlander 2 of the series. Let's just pretend it never happened. I'll take the AvP garbage over watching Prometheus again!
I still prefer "The Thing" (1984) for my alien body-possession sci-fi / horror needs. Granted they're basically the same movie, with antarctica replacing outer space... but I'm also a huge Kurt Russel fan.

(55,497 posts)And that's despite the fact I have a school girl crush on Idris Elba. The movie sucked.

(42,550 posts)I agree, another hyped up one. The one I liked that a lot of people didn't was "Pandorum"
That was a great series.

(55,497 posts)I'm going to watch it with my Dad sometime soon.
Last time we watched Jack Reacher because it was free on his Amazon Prime. We both enjoyed it, and that's despite the fact I can't stand Tom Cruise.

(3,163 posts)In fact, have read each of them three or four times.
Which is why I will NEVER watch the movie. They could not possibly have picked a worse actor. Jack Reacher is dispassionate and never angry when engaged in combat. Tom Cruise is all about phony display of rage. Yeccch.

(110,159 posts)we heard reacher was cruise and could not get past that. we were googlin' all the actors that would be so much better. months later talking about how wrong it was to make cruise reacher. not even about the physical wrong, but character and personality too. and who reacher is.... is so much a part of the books.
totally agree.

(3,163 posts)My choice would be Mark Wahlberg. Size is a bit of a problem, but that could be overcome. He fits the profile.

(110,159 posts)a 30 yr younger niam lindsey? or whatever his hame is. see how bad i am with names. lol. we googled over 6 foot actors.

(34,437 posts)For the same reasons mostly but partly because we were sitting in the front row of a theater and saw it in 3D and I spent half the movie with my face in my coat. I am terribly afraid of heights and the thought of sailing out into space just freaked the crap out of me.
I too am sick of the damsel in distress movie although I really do like her as an actress.

(39,961 posts)Claudia Black offers a fantastic performance in that.

(113,131 posts)I knew the acting and the story line were weak but the special effects have gotten raves. I ended up watching Ru Paul's Drag Race instead. I think it was probably better entertainment and I know the special effects were super.

(22,871 posts)regularly getting their air cut off is unwatchable to me. It literally gives me the heebie jeebies so bad it's too uncomfortable to enjoy.

(25,380 posts)We had a couple over to watch the Oscars and the woman of the couple's take was similar to yours. I think I'll skip it.
Thanks for the heads up.
