History of Feminism

Aha! I KNEW they were getting it some where. They. them. Those.
If a woman has drunk any amount of alcohol, she cant consent to sex.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than the suffering of men.
Historically, women have been oppressed worse than black slaves.
That last one is a tad ironic. Not just because its a bit odd to contrast women and black slaves when half of all black slaves were women and girls. And not just because I never hear feminists making this claim. No, its a tad ironic because AVFM is constantly comparing men to slaves and suggesting that men are being enslaved by everything from child support payments to the women they date.
But I digress. You may wonder where exactly all these alleged quotes come from. In the comments to his AVFM post promoting the postering campaign, AVFMs Dean Esmay blithely assures readers that most or all of the sources of the quotes can be found right at the end of the video.
This is not how should I put it? true. In fact, the percentage of quotations accurately sourced at the end of the video is a lot closer to none than to most. Bane666au, for his part, only claims that all comments are based on actual comments Ive seen or heard from self proclaimed feminists.
Apparently he has an extremely loose definition of based on because only a couple of the actual quotes from Tumblr feminists he includes at the end of his video bear much resemblance to his, er, paraphrases.
Many of the alleged hateful quotes are obvious jokes, taken completely out of context, taking aim at popular perceptions of feminists. Heres one screenshot from his video (with the name of the poster blurred out):

A Voice for Men just keeps on defending rape. (which is what the first one is about, poking a little "fun" at the "Don't be That Guy" campaign. Oh, the lulz) you gotta WONDER about so much rape apology from them-- Ick.

(36,651 posts)here, cause so much angst. People have to educate themselves on what these people say. And yes, I'm sorry, you do hear a lot of their talking points like the ERA will help men and hurt women.
Like men are oppressed by feminists.
Like there is no patriarchy.
etc etc etc
Sure you don't see graphics like the one in the OP, but that's because they will certainly get the ban hammer if they do. But they spout a bunch of MRA bullshit that seems to fly under the radar here.
It all comes from the same ugly place.

Someone might start a thread insinuating that you deserve to be PPRd for that - or even directly appeal to the admins insisting that you should be PPR'd for daring to be so insulting to the valued and respected contributors to this site!*
*Yes this actually happened.

It is the The Politics of Imagined Grievances
The War on Women is retold as a War on Men.
The Fight for Justice is spun as a War on White People.

(6,785 posts)All hate groups borrow from one another quite often, even if they refuse to admit it. It's funny (But not haha funny) how many of the arguments here could come straight from Fox News in the polite threads, or with a couple words replaced from the Ku Klux Klan or Aryan Nation in the non-polite ones. (I don't hate women, I'm just trying to protect men! Feminists are the real misogynists! It's bigoted to call me bigoted! <insert appropriate minority> lover!)
I'm especially fond (But not in a good way) of the ones that are a direct mirror for what you find on Stormfront about how terrible it is the PC police have decided to make certain words thought crimes. Ooh, and all the ones where they insist feminists aren't allowed to complain about any issue because other women somewhere else have it worse. All the right wing bigots love the Dear Muslima type argument.
If half your arguments to insist you aren't a hate group are the ones groups widely known and accepted as hate groups use to insist they totally don't hate anyone, you need to rethink your position.
TL: DR: They use the same song as the Klan and NOM, they just changed a few words in the chorus.

(529 posts)Feminists against each other (re: the slave part). Just another divide and conquer tactic to get us fighting with one another over who has/had it worse. I find its best to call it out and show it for what it really is. And I'm not very surprised at the rape jokes. Honestly, that shit makes me want to stay even farther away from them. Sounds too much like they're defending something, if you catch my drift.

(42,538 posts)They're disgusting and ridiculous with their tactics
There is an issue within feminism, white women have the most vocal, most heard voices-- although that is slowly changing . Black feminists and other women of color often feel their voices are pushed aside. We are working on it, and there are some incredible blogs by feminists of color who point this out no holds barred. I learn a lot by reading and listening.

(115,177 posts)and that it's the only popular or valid form of feminism anymore.
They get the pro-objectification, pro-prostitution, pro-porn feminists arguing with those who oppose those things... then they sit back and watch the fireworks.
Sound familiar?

(529 posts)It is a little bit funny when they see someone like me though, who supports sex workers and wants them to get paid equally, have unions, etc., but doesn't really like prostitution. I know women who do that kind of work and they are not very happy with their lot in life. They've been, and still are, abused, have drug problems, need money for their kids, or just to support themselves. They don't tell the johns that though, they say they make more money when they act happy and smile. That's why I don't really argue with women who support or do sex work. Not in front of men anyways. Not that all men would do that, just that sex workers never know who might be their next buyer, and they want to put on a happy face. They do act differently around men than they do women, wether or not men want to admit it is a different story...
