Oh, the coffees good too!

(110,159 posts)not the waffles and ham, lol. sounds yum. but the rest.
Rowdyboy
(22,057 posts)and even a few new favorites! Auntie Mame (the incomparable Rosalind Russell), The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music (the real one-with Julie Andrews), The Man Who Came to Dinner (Bette Davis), Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwyck-my first time!)and now sort of watching Ben Hur for the first time while cooking Christmas dinner and getting ready for a guest. An absolute fantasy festival!
I'm recovering from some minor surgery for liver cancer and moving a little slow but my spirits are sky high!

(110,159 posts)you and my husband, lol
the movies you love. he is so there with you.
and i am glad it was minor surgery to a scary cancer.... and on the high road. more love your way.

(22,057 posts)I had a radio-embolization-pumped yttrium 90 directly to one or two of the tumors while avoiding the healthy tissue. I'm radioactive for the next few days but with the movies and a ton of unread fiction that's no problem at all!
Congratulate your guy on his excellent taste in movies. "Life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death!"

(22,057 posts)Been on some good chemo ever since (no side effects at all), had the procedure last week and will meet with the lead doctor on 1/3/14 to see where we go from here. Its grim but I still feel damn good, have decent insurance, wonderful doctors, a helluva support system (family/friends/neighbors and a church-full of Episcopalian women who adore me) and a man who loves me that I've shared 25 wonderful years with. If I go tonight I'll still have had a better ride than most people can dream of. I don't want to go-but so far my pain has been mostly emotional-not physical. I'm retired, have a warm house, plenty of food good books to read and a little dog and big cat. What more do I need-except more time to enjoy it.
Not rich, never have been but never wanted to be so that's okay. My sorrow is for those who are ill who don't have what I have. It could be so very much worse.
Thanks for your kind words and apologies to geek tragedy for hijacking his thread.

(115,177 posts)It's good to know that you're doing ok despite the big c. Super good to see you're not letting it drag you too far down. Here's hoping that your spirits stay high, and that it fucks the hell off quickly in the new year.

(22,057 posts)I'll hopefully know more what to expect then. If its good, I want to share. If its bad its going to be the goddamndest world class GCW post in DU history, remembered and commented on for years to come. I will NOT "go gently into that good night....."

I'm about to start the trimmings. I'm timing our dinner to be ready during the Dr. Who Christmas episode. We're looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi's inaugural episode.

(42,538 posts)Sorry to hear about the cancer, but I wish you the absolute best
(I take care of patients with liver resections, as well as transplant from localized liver CA, not so much RFA)
What do you like to read?
Rowdyboy
(22,057 posts)Another thinks it might not be necessary. on 1/3 I talk to the top dog who can hopefully tell me more.
My reading list is exceedingly eclectic. I'm currently starting Stephen King's sequel to the Shining, Doctor Sleep. On my shelf above waiting a thriller by John Connolly, a fictional bio of Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of Ellis Peters mysteries set in medieval England featuring a monk named Cadfael, the David McCullough bio of Truman and a half dozen of my favorite, Lindsey Davis detective Marcus Didius Falco who works for the Emperor Vespasian (among others) in late 1st century Rome. When he and his wife had their first baby in book 5 or 6 of the series I sobbed like a baby. Davis makes Rome seem a lot like contemporary America only without electricity, a little crueler and a sadly similar political situation (the Golden Rule-he who has the gold, rules). Falco most definitely doesn't have money but he's crazy in love, has a believable family and leads an exciting life. He an endearing cynic. Most recommended.....I savor each one
