WINTER ALERTS POSTED: 12/7 9:55PM

Winter weather alerts have been pushed farther north this evening! We now have a Winter Weather Advisory covering the entire Northern Neck of Virginia and a new Winter Storm Warning for the Richmond metro, where steadier snow is expected. Earlier, a Special Weather Statement for the Fredericksburg area, where a coating to 1" could impact the morning commute.

This highlights just how close Southern Maryland is to the edge of this system—but for now, I am not shifting my snowfall forecast northward. Current guidance still supports flurries to a coating for most of Southern MD, with up to 1" possible in southern St. Mary’s.
That said, this tight gradient will be important to watch through tonight, and I’ll update if trends change
