‘Shoah' Trailer: Claude Lanzmann's Iconic Work To Screen At Berlinale To Mark 40th Anniversary Of Release & 80 Years Since Auschwitz Liberation

Claude Lanzmann's Holocaust film Shoah will screen at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival in February and Deadline can reveal a new trailer and poster.

The screening marks the 80th anniversary year of the end of WWII and the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, as well as the 40th anniversary of the iconic documentary’s release in April 1985.

Made over the course of 12 years from interviews with survivors, bystanders and perpetrators, Shoah made cinematic history with its exploration of the systematic extermination of the six million Jews by the Nazis during WWII and runtime of nine hours and 30 minutes in duration.

Paris-based mk2 films, which represents six films by Lanzmann, has commissioned a new poster for the work by acclaimed Polish designer Aleksander Walijewski to accompany the Berlinale screening.

Heartbreaking.

The trailer says it will be in theaters, it doesn't say when. Do you know when it will be released?

Such a powerful film, it should be watched by everybody. You can stream it on AMC+

This Monday 1/27 TCM will be showing Holocaust themed movies all day long, including the continuation of 'Shoah', Claude Lanzmann's final documentary, 'Shoah: The Four Sisters' (2018)

Shoah: Four Sisters (French: Les quatre soeurs) is a 2017 French documentary film by Claude Lanzmann, his final film prior to his death in 2018. A continuation of his acclaimed 1985 film Shoah, Four Sisters chronicles four women – Paula Biren, Ruth Elias, Ada Lichtman and Hanna Marton – who, after escaping the concentration camps, tried to find a life after the Holocaust. Lanzmann traveled around four Eastern European countries, interviewing and got accounts from four separate women.
