Also atheists, according to Cardinal Gerhard Müller. Now we know who is really to blame. Glad they got that sorted out.
The said the removal of penalties in church doctrine for homosexual acts led to child abuse scandals within the clergy.
That was a disastrous error, he said. Sexual contacts between persons of the same sex completely and directly contradict the sense and purpose of sexuality as grounded in creation.

(15,291 posts)Atheism, of course, is the evil spirit he's talking about.
It is finally atheism that has spread within the Church, Müller told LifeSite. According to this evil spirit, the Revelation concerning Faith and morals is being adapted to the world without God so that it does not interfere anymore with a life according to one's own lusts and needs.

I see fundamentalists and conservatives do this all the time. I just wonder where they picked it up.

(15,291 posts)It's not a commandment or anything, but it is clearly illustrated in the very earliest stories. In the Garden of Eden story, Adam blames Eve for enticing him to eat the fruit. Eve wasn't even told directly by God not to do it, only Adam was. Faced with the results of his own negligence, God blames them for this even though they had no way of knowing what they did was wrong until after they did it. God then proceeds to punish everyone who hasn't been born yet, as if they are somehow responsible. That's just the first few examples.

"We regret deeply that our systematic sexual abuse of children has been discovered and made known around the world. Those who have revealed this will surely be punished. The Holy Church will never tolerate exposure of such things."

(15,291 posts)in covering up incidents of child molestation by priests. From Wikipedia:
In 2016, Fritz Wallner, a former chair of the lay diocesan council in Regensburg, Germany, alleged that Müller as Bishop of Regensburg had "systematically" thwarted the investigation of abuse in the "Regensburger Domspatzen" boys' choir. Georg Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI's brother, led the choir from 1964 to 1994. Müller insisted that neither the church nor its bishops were responsible for abusers. In February 2012, he said that "if a schoolteacher abuses a child, it is not the school nor the Ministry of Education that are to blame." He maintained that only the perpetrator is guilty. In 2016, a commission of 12 members was instituted to address the history of abuse and its cover-up in the boys' choir, a move critics viewed as long overdue. Wallner called for the church to purge any person associated with Müller, who had overseen the church's response to the allegations. In July 2017, a comprehensive report commissioned by the Diocese of Regensburg on abuse at the boys choirs said that Müller had "clear responsibility for the strategic, organizational and communicative weaknesses" of the church's response when the abuses were first reported.
Müller is being sued in France along with Cardinal Philippe Barbarin, Archbishop of Lyon, for failure to act in a case of sexual abuse of minors by a priest.

(148,398 posts)If the full extent of the abuse and cover-up were known, I suspect that the entire church's hierarchy would have its blame revealed. For that reason, alone, the long, long scandal has to be covered up carefully.
And so it has been, until recently. Now, the state has become involved in many places, however. The bankruptcies and other attempts to shield the highest levels of the patriarchal hierarchy go on apace. That may well not be enough, though. The Roman Catholic Church does not have immunity against criminal acts in the United States, nor in many other western nations.
If things go as they should, investigations will reveal an expanding network of guilt that leads clear to the top of the RCC's organization. Knowledge of these heinous acts against children in every diocese is universal, I suspect. The result, if everything goes as it should, could lead to the end of the RCC as we now know it.
There is far more to be revealed than has yet been revealed, I'm certain.
