One of four rare Long-eared Owls resting in Central Park, NYC

Photo: Manhattan Bird Alert

One of four rare Long-eared Owls resting near each other in Central Park today. These owls sometimes arrive here in winter after flying south to avoid extreme cold or deep snow cover.

I hope they reappear for you. Central Park is too much of a hazard for owls. Donkees Tuesday #4

Long Eared Owl - A rare visitor in Central Park. Such a beauty. Pictures taken using Owl Etiquette by keeping a safe distance and being very quiet. Last pic - 2 LEOs perching together

one of these roosting under the eves of our small barn. We have not seen it again since.
However, there’s evidence that this has been a well used roosting spot over the years.

These owls sometimes roost together in groups of 50+ - And, groups of > 100 have been found!!

We are keeping a look out for his/her return.
