OP
Wasn't it Diamond_Dog?!? In the article second baseman Edwards said "Some tennis footwork there, that's what it is."

The Dodges lost but so did the Padres so they're still in fist place, up by half a game

Thanks Brother Buzz for showing the entire play. Second baseman Edwards acted like it was just another putout.

(40,232 posts)6. Thanks for pointing out the game ending unassisted double play
I totally missed it because I got sucked into the Padres game.

(33,255 posts)7. Ditto: thanks for the video. And to George McGovern for the OP.
One of the nuances that makes baseball great: was the baserunner on 3rd forced or not?

(12,554 posts)8. At 8:47 into the video they show a slow motion replay of the play.
According to the announcers if Ohtani was tagged out before Edwards
stepped on the base a tying run would not count.
I enlarged a screenshot from the replay, which seems to show the runner
from third sliding into home before Ohtani was either tagged or ruled out
of the baseline for the second out.

"Was the baserunner on 3rd forced or not?" I dunno.
Talk about nuances ~ great observation Auggie!
