U.S. men's basketball team wins its closest game of FIBA World Cup, into quarterfinals

The U.S. men's basketball team passed a test in its closest game of the FIBA World Cup so far, overcoming a second-half deficit to beat Montenegro 85-73 in Manila.

The U.S., now 4-0 and into the quarterfinals, trailed by three points early in the third quarter and had their fourth-quarter lead cut to four with three minutes left before pulling away.

Anthony Edwards led the way with 17 points (all in the second half) against a Montenegro team led by two-time NBA All-Star center Nikola Vučević, who scored 18 with 16 rebounds. Montenegro outrebounded the U.S. 49-31 but committed 22 turnovers to the U.S.' 12.

The U.S. previously beat New Zealand (by 27 points), Greece (by 28) and Jordan (48).

That's inexcusable. 12 NBA players got 31 rebounds? And, the gave Montenegro 14 more shots on offensive rebounds!
Kerr has got to be tearing his hair out after watching that weak effort & lack of effort.
Montenegro had 3 guys with a total of 5.5 NBA years.
The US team has TWELVE CURRENT NBA players. The game should have been a beat-down.
Only Anthony Richardson is the only one taking this seriously.

Team USA closed out the Group Phase of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Sunday with a loss, their first of the tournament, falling 110-104 to Lithuania in Manila.

Anthony Edwards scored a game-high 35 points, but it was not enough to make up for yet another slow start for the Americans along with an onslaught of 3-point shots, offensive rebounds and second-chance points for Lithuania, who beats the United States for the first time in the World Cup since 1988.
