Pronunciation of "data"

I'm hearing both "DATE - ah" and "DAT - ah". And I've heard this conflict in several English speaking countries. I'm a Dat guy myself.

I typically use date-ah when combined with other words like 'database'. That's a particular word which I tend to say numerous times a day, since I'm DBA by trade.

When just saying the word data alone, I usually still say date-ah but occasionally say dat-ah.

Also "STATE-us" for the word "status" unless I'm saying "status quo." Then, for some reason, I say "STAT-us." English is truly a wondrous language!

Warm... like War with an m at the end.
Warm... like Arm with a w in front of it.

Not complaining, just curious.
