as the wind blows and the rain pours the storm edges closer
windows rattle in their tracks the old door groans ominously
a sudden rushing speeding train is passing hints at exposure
as roof tiles hunch their backs to shed a deluge continuously
simultaneous drips individual sound cascading in cacophony
the waters rise as streams converge debris clutters in clumps
washes deep over soggy ground reaching a storm’s epiphany
gradually the lost lands submerge each hard raindrop jumps
shiver as the wind discover cracks howls in ever louder tones
glance to see if the roof is falling stains appear on the ceiling
miniature rivers leaving tracks cut through the house’s bones
built of sticks spiderwebs crawling flaws and faults revealing
slowing the storm fades and dies relief is a natural bequeath
the surface of this shelter belies what now exists underneath
