acceptance

time has moved past acceptance wallowing in self pity
aimed directionless wandering without a known goal
stepping in an uneasy balance to turn the ugly pretty
an unsinkable ship foundering upon the craggy shoal
time to sleep beneath the deep and breathe the water
lost of love and lost of life closing the eyes in the dark
no whim of memory to keep no lambs left to slaughter
yet still clutching a dull knife holding on to the mark
time weighs heavy on the back measured in the grains
a point arrives when this burden reaches the overflow
suddenly stiff spines will crack hope gives way to pains
announced in words so uncertain the coming final blow
time becomes a merciless butcher chopping and grating
the past is gone there is no future the present is fading
