the escape

there is no way out of life except the escape to death
as to whether it is to be welcomed or it is to be feared
depends on times of strife pleasure depth and breadth
heartbeats being drummed inhales or exhales cleared
throughout the dream night hopes are gained and lost
nightmares give way to waking or to sleep once more
exquisite love fearful fright a fantasy can’t count cost
both taking and forsaking to choose from closed doors
being sat still on a bright day to wish for another road
eyes glazed a heart wandering the conscience hidden
imagining the sight will stay the flesh will not corrode
to run to the world of pondering voluntary not driven
staring at the old photograph as if to hold onto a truth
narrowing the false polymath and rewriting the proof
