Love is what's partaken when someone takes time
To reply to persons mostly unknown to them,
Sharing a bit of the precious kindness we possess,
Benignity we grow and store inside our minds,
Troubled and aspiring, lonely, injured, and intrepid.

Hope is a brave promise made to ourselves and others
That someday we might gather up love and fashion it
Into a community of caring which helps sustain us all,
Like the community of interests assembled here at DU.

We bring it all; anger, resentment, pain, sorrow, angst.
There's also joy, achievement, redemption, forgiveness here;
All of the ingredients that go into life's stew, sweet and savory,
With the hearts we give each other spread all over these pages.
