I can't stand coming here much because of precisely this--minorities getting banned from DU for fighting bigoted bullshit. At least on twitter there are no juries with axes to grind.

DU was full of Obama haters during his presidency and many of them(obama haters) ended up supporting trump.

I'm assuming it has to do with hurt feelings over her post "Guess what I am doing right now" making fun of the silly neoliberal/establishment/corporatist buzzwords. And she's a Democrat and intelligent and funny, so obviously ...

Really, I am more and more convinced that those buzzwords are tells for bots intentionally creating disunity among Democrats. I was very happy to see her lampoon them.

I have my own theories, mentally unstable, prone to malignant gossip, poor work history or are retired or on disability--because who has the time for that shit when you're working? Very little emotional intelligence, obsessive/addictive tendencies, anger issues. Some of the more unpleasant DU characters have openly talked about--or inadvertently exposed-- one or more of these these traits so I'm extrapolating really.

Not the kind of people I hang out with.

I'm a gamer, I used to frequent gaming forums a lot, it's almost the same drama but still unexpected.

I cannot get over that someone has the time to STALK someone on a forum and alert their posts to get them klcked off. That kind of abuse shouldn't happen anyway?

But I've been in juries where I regret my vote because I didn't have enough context--I just did the best I could. I think there's a lot of unresolved bitter as well. What's very concerning is it appears a disproportionate number of PoCs have been FFRd--not outright banned, which I don't get, seems petty--so they remain in that strange, insulting limbo. I wish I had the numbers. Of active posters, how many are PoC, and what percent are FFRd?

Gaming culture absolutely fascinates me, especially when more and more women joined. I am not a gamer, but I like reading about what's happening in the gaming world on occasion so I've heard about some of the drama that can happen.

I've recently learned the derisive term "neckbeard" that describes certain toxic-sexist male individuals immersed in gaming or comics. Usually white, libertarian and always sexist. They sometimes join the Nordic cults springing up all over the place.

How many people of color are left at DU? It's never been a high number, but every one with a vocal voice gets hammered with these 'midnight' alerts. And too many voices are on reviewed status--from a place that can't afford to bleed diversity if it wants to retain any quality.
