Related: About this forumGripping trailer for 'Detroit,' a film on the 1967 riots
Looks depressing as hell (but I suppose life often is as well), but well-made. Same director as 0 Dark Thirty and Hurt Locker (Katheryn Bigelow), but I've never seen either, or any of her other films, so I can't really guess from which direction she'll take it. But I have to admit, the trailer is gripping!

(7,631 posts)during the riots. Overlooking the city from UAW headquarters. I was surrounded by both white and black people who were saddened by what were observing.

(37,916 posts)We lived off of Michigan Avenue & Livernois (pronounced liver noi). We'd been at a picnic on Belle Isle that day. The smoke was fierce.
I read Herseys' book in the middle 70s, I expect I will reread it again soon.
LanternWaste, it was a depressing as hell time. Honestly, I am amazed it hasn't happened so many times again.

(7,631 posts)It was the used car street in Detroit. I went shopping there several times. Even though I lived 100 miles west. Always liked driving all the way into Detroit on 12.

I was born in Detroit, but was not there when these riots happened. I did live in LA when those riots happened in '92.
