Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumIs the NRA a terrorist organization?
Probably the best definition of terrorism is:
Killing or maiming civilians to achieve political goals.
The NRA aims to increase gun sales for two reasons: to enrich gun CEOs, and to get votes for Republican billionaires agenda. Many wealthy Republicans who dont care about guns (like the Koch network) donate to the NRA, because they know the NRA gets white people to vote for Republicans. And that gets votes for tax cuts and deregulation.
To me, that sounds like the definition of a terrorist organization.
Thoughts?
Also, these T shirts and stickers make this claim.

(6,916 posts)Acts of violence intended to intimidate civilian populations or to influence or affect government policy should be prosecuted as domestic terrorism regardless of the ideology behind them, FBIAA President Brian OHare said in a statement.
We shouldnt get hung up on law on the books today because Republican lawmakers have a strong incentive to not classify their base as terrorists even though they might be.

Or are you just unwilling to admit the NRA supports domestic terrorism?
Really, Republican billionaires are just as responsible. So the NRA is not the ONLY gun-loving domestic Republican terror organization.
hack89
(39,180 posts)But so far I see nothing that could be used to prosecute the NRA. One major obstacle is that the law only mentions foreign terrorist organizations. It doesn't mention domestic organizations.
hack89
(39,180 posts)The US code defines it but it is not codified into law. Domestic acts of terror are prosecuted under standard federal statutes. There is no way to designate the NRA a terrorist organization.

(6,916 posts)Just because Republicans have blocked laws and DOJ action to prosecute domestic terrorists (because the domestic terrorists are on their political side, confirming they are domestic terrorists) doesnt mean we shouldnt use the real term.

Some years ago, I donated $50 to the Brady Campaign in order to see what the propaganda
to their members looked like. The results were illuminating (if not very flattering to the Brady Bunch), and I posted about
it at DU.
I don't seem to recall any of them posting about doing even so much as marching around in matching T-shirts for
a feel-good photo op...

(6,916 posts)The NRA is a terror organization.
We should fight and organize against it and its politicians and its donors.
No one affiliated with the NRA will survive its stain. It will go down with some of the worst terrorist organizations of the past 100 years. It has already facilitated killings of more than the IRA and the Basque separatists.

(39,180 posts)They may be evil but good doesn't always win. Given the dismal record of gun control you have no reason to be confident - the present leadership doesn't engender a lot of confidence.

(6,916 posts)Youre telling us not to fight?
This is a Republican talking point. Give up, because youll never win on gun control.
We are near a turning point. We are going to win this. Just as gay marriage used to be an identity politics weapon that helped Republicans and now hurts them, gun control is flipping too.
But its a moral issue as well as good politics.
Kids are getting torn apart by weapons of war in our godd*mn elementary schools.
And anyone who is an NRA member, or who buys guns and ammo and thus funds the NRA, is complicit.

If you care about gun violence and domestic terror and Russian attacks- take action. Dont wait for Bill Barr (ha) to save you.
Join a local Indivisible or Swing Left. Donate to causes you care about. Listen to Pod Save America. Canvass. Register voters. Protest. Dont wait. Act!!!

(15,333 posts)That's a start, I suppose- but you do realize that most like minded individuals will still settle for keyboard Kommandoism,
or at the outside a mass photo op with matching T-shirts.
The NRA is evil- but they get things done, because they (for the most part) know how real-world politics work
In contrast, 99% of what you lot have done so far is proclaim how awful guns are and what a great idea
gun control is and how will be happening Real Soon Now

Gun companies want to sell guns. The 30-year history of the Democratic party and its politicians and pundits means more Dems = more gun sales.
