National Rifle Association executive vice president Wayne LaPierre issued a stark warning that the group may be forced to shut down due to financial woes in a fundraising letter to supporters.
LaPierre wrote in a four-page letter that the group may be forced to shutter very soon, The Daily Beast reported. The NRA chief blamed the financial woes on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who last year directed state regulators to "urge insurance companies, New York State-chartered banks, and other financial services companies licensed in New York to review any relationships they may have with the National Rifle Association."
LaPierre wrote that Cuomos tactics are already working.
Right now were facing an attack thats unprecedented not just in the history of the NRA, but in the entire history of our country. And if this attack succeeds, NRA will be forced to shut down forever, LaPierre wrote.
And let me be clear, he added. Cuomos tactics are already working. One by one, more and more banks and insurance companies across the country are knuckling under to Cuomos threat and telling NRA they wont do business with us because they dont want to be targeted and crushed by Cuomos strong-arm tactics and the vast power of thousands of New York bureaucrats.

They're not going out of business because they get so much money from the gun MANUFACTURERS. When they go out of business, then we can talk.

(5,276 posts)The NRA used to be all about rifles for hunters, not much more. Now it advocates for letting anyone load up on deadly firearms. We all know the periodic carnage this has caused.
They have lots of blood on their hands and no shame about that at all.

ALL OF TRUMP's actions stem from this too, never forget scenes like the gif here, and don't forget that tRumps' BASE actually thinks rasslin' is FOR REAL! This little vignette shows how his base believes he treats dictators around the world, when in actuality it should be a scene from "CALIGUA".

Funny after the Russian money dried up the NRA has gone almost all the way under. Putin was using the NRA to stoke divisions in America.

The NRA Is Being Sued Over Its Relentless Telemarketing Campaigns
When begging for bucks goes wrong.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-nra-is-being-sued-over-its-relentless-telemarketing-campaigns
The NRA has employed InfoCision since 2012 under a contract that grants the fundraising company up to 65 percent of the funds it raises on the NRAs behalf. InfoCision gets between $2.50 and $3.75 for each completed call to potential NRA donors, and up to half of the regular payments for new or renewed NRA memberships.
-------------------------------------------
If those high fees are unavoidable, they can also have the effect of obscuring, for a potential donor, exactly where his or her money is going. Many of those speaking with an InfoCision fundraiser, after all, will not know that a majority of their donation is not going to the charity that fundraiser is representing.

NRA solicitations
comment from a blog - (DU I think)
I had a coworker who was a big time gun owner who kept a gun in every room in the house just in case someone broke in (lots of problems with that idea, may be worth a blog article someday, but thats what he did). He even went so far as to start buying more guns for each room after a school shooting, like home invasion and mass shooting are correlated somehow. He had let his NRA membership lapse and refused to renew it because he got tired of nonstop requests for donations. To him all the membership did was give the NRA to badger him for more money with phone calls, and direct mailings. If the
organization is as strapped for cash as it appears, those solicitations may have gone way over the top and people are simply tired of being badgered for money and are choosing to let their membership to lapse.

I understand the hunting/fishing mags 'food on the table' message.
The collective weapon/ammo manufacturers will just put another mouthpiece in place to spout fear if the NRA 'folds'.
Gov. Cuomo could have gone further to also reviewing the banks relations with the above mentioned manufacturing collective.
And ban all foreign made weapons.
The fact that the first tool used by the protohumans is a weapon to commit murder, is only one of the challenging evolutionary and philosophic questions posed by the film 2001:A Space Odyssey. The tool's link to the present day is made by the famous graphic match from the bone/tool flying in slow motion into the air, to a weapon orbiting the earth.

... if a right-wing governor took state contracts away from any company that did business with Planned Parenthood? This is a governor using the power of his office to crush an advocacy group whose cause he disagrees with. This is executive overreach at its extra-judicial, extra-legislative worst.
