As dad recalled soooo many times, the coldest stretch in all of human history. Then again, I've never spent much of a Winter outside day and night with people shooting at me.
Dems need to re purpose Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe's simple, concise response to the German demand that he surrender Bastogne. Use it for all the orange hemorrhoid's demands no matter how crazy or trivial.....
NUTS!
We will not cooperate......NUTS!

(576 posts)Sleeping in foxholes with no cold weather gear and not enough food or ammunition. Your dad and all who fought over there truly were the greatest generation!
I recently was able to watch the Band of Brothers series, which Id seen recommended here numerous times. The episode on the Battle of the Bulge and Bastogne was highly enlightening. Again, I cant imagine being that cold for multiple days and nights and having the enemy trying to kill you.

(19,816 posts)It was kind of a running joke in our family...nothing was ever as cold as Belgium in '44 / '45.
Dad, some of his friends, my maternal uncles all seemed normal. From the outside you'd never guess what they been through. Amazing what humans can do when they have to. 101st had little to zero winter gear since they were still in rest and refit after Market Garden. Those guys really suffered. Dad was in the 30th ID and had some winter gear but were also off the line, recovering from the battle for Aachen when the bulge started.
