Related: About this forumFirst pictures of my new pet.
I won't know for awhile until I can figure out what sex my Sulcata tortoise is. So far name ideas are Sam. Which could be Samatha or Samuel. Pat for Patrica or Patrick, etc. . May try to figure out other names. A couple of it's sisters/brothers name is peaches and another pear so it doesn't need to be a normal name. It does have a bat like shape on it's front scute. That's what they call the plates of the shell. Kind of favoring something bat related. Maybe just bat until I can figure out whether it's batman or batgirl.
Edit: it's not shy, stressed or scared. It doesn't tuck it's head in when you pick it up. My granddaughter worked with it already.
Edit 2: I thought about going to the florist and seeing if I could get flowers they were getting ready to throw. They do like them just have to make sure they arent poisonous. But then I remembered most flowers are imported and probably fumigated. So thats out. But I do have some plants around the house I can feed it. (I hate saying it. So for now its Batty.) I am planting some just for Batty also in pots I can pick later. Right now Batty is too small to go out in a 20 by 3 raised concrete flowerbed. So Ill see what I can do to get that started. Most food will just come from the store.
Edit 3: They do eat hay. Also the pet store does have a dried fruit, flower, etc. tortoise mix. I do have a aero garden setup so that will be going back into production.

(3,766 posts)She got 3 of them. We already agreed she gets it when I pass away. I dont have any succulents right now but Im going to toss some in a raised bed soon. Our local HEB has cactus pads every so often. Talked to my granddaughter about splitting up food for them so we arent wasting a lot.
