My cats are not allowed on the kitchen counters or table. Last week Foggy was standing on the table, I told him "no- get down" - which almost always works - but not this time. This time, he just stood and looked at me so I swatted his bottom - very lightly! Oh man did he take offense, he didn't hiss but jumped down and gave me a bad look. For the next week he would not come to me or lie down on me. Yesterday I got off the shit list and he laid with me and now comes to me and asks for pets again - so nice!

So no more swats, it hurts his feelings too much. I can always pick him up if he doesn't cooperate at first. Besides, I bet it's a long time before he gets back up on the table again.

That's what my cats have always done.

Now when she gets on the table or counter, I usually only have to say "down" and she responds. Sometimes I have to turn on the water and she gets the idea.

My dog was overjoyed to see me back after a 2 week vacation but got snooty when we got home from the sitter. She didn’t last but a day or two, tho.

My psychotic cat draws blood. Just this morning he got up when I did a half hour ago. I reached from the side of the bed and stroked his side. He returned the loving gesture by attacking my hand with claws and fangs. Now I have two more spots that will infect. My right arm has so many scars it looks like I have a skin disease.

My dog has attacked and once bit someone in my house. There is no safe way to get between him and something he wants to eat. He rarely follows requests. But love wins out.
