Weve still been having problems getting calories into her. The vomiting stopped but I think shes afraid to eat because she had such unholy gastrointestinal upset for so long. In her mind, I think Eating=Puking. Poor baby. Today is only the 2nd day I havent had to supplement syringe feed her to make sure she doesnt get dehydrated again.
Otherwise, shes in good spirits. We have good days and bad days but it feels like we made some real progress yesterday. The thyroid meds are *finally* starting to work. It definitely didnt take this long with my other cats who had thyroid issues, but they also didnt have the vomiting problem.
My sweet baby doesnt want the Merrick Grain-free Rabbit pâté, or the Earthborn organic, holistic Chicken shreds with delicate gravy, or the Fussie Cat pate in aspic.
Hell no. My girl wants Friskies Lil Soups.
They are only a treat so not nutritionally balanced but, at this point, whatever shell willingly eat she can have. Also picked up some of the chicken paste lickable treat things in the squeeze tubes today. Theres a whole world of sauce-heavy cat food in pouches I was unaware of. Hoping if we can get her eating more on her own again we can slowly switch back over to regular canned food.
So, things arent as good as I hope theyd be by now but shes hanging in there. If her eating continues to improve I can get start sleeping like a normal person again instead of offering her new food every 4 hours or syringe feeding her. Shes fighting me on taking pills now, too. Feisty is a good sign. Limp surrender and listlessness was so strange to see in her.
Im just grateful my baby is still with me and finally showing signs of returning to her old self.

(10,875 posts)that cats and dogs seem to like. It is high calorie and is for animals who are not eating well - to get some calories into them.

(367 posts)Be sure to read the one star reviews and look at the ingredient list.
i did because i was interested in anything that will put more weight on my Griffin cat.
Nope...just nope. Thanks for trying. It's a struggle.

(10,875 posts)She had cancer and I eventually had to put her down because of that but I fed her a small amount of this daily along with what little regular food she would eat for weeks prior and it had no bad effects. I've also fed it to my other kitty when she isn't eating well with no bad effects.
I've had other vets recommend this stuff to me and other patients - would they do that if it was so terrible for them?
Yes corn syrup and soy oil - the idea is to get calories and nutrients (both are high in calories and sugar) into pets not eating well, recovering, elderly or sick. You don't feed them this as a main diet - it's more like a snack or a treat - and it's not for long-term use
But...all that said, if the reviews bother you, don't buy the stuff or feed it to your pet!
EDIT: for anyone, check with your vet about this stuff and see what they say before giving it to your pet rather than relying on Amazon reviews.
Ive got an old cat. Shes going blind, staggers a little but still trucking around. Weve been using the salmon pouches of catfood because she loves salmon. We also have a bunch of the lil soups and sometimes she will eat that.

(367 posts)My older cat was losing weight and looking skeletal but he never liked wet food, only kibble.
So i started spoon feeding him the Sheba shredded turkey etc that my young cat likes.
A few days later, like a miracle, he started demanding it a couple times a day and now, several weeks later, he's put on weight and looking much better.
Just FYI
