Housing officials were told to exclude emotional support animals and tighten the definition of a service animal when granting accommodations for disabled tenants.
snip-"The Trump administration on Friday narrowed the definition of an assistance animal allowed to live with disabled tenants in housing, a move that could lead to thousands of animals and their owners being evicted.
In an internal memo obtained by The New York Times, the Department of Housing and Urban Development told leaders in its fair housing office that effective immediately the department would exclude emotional support animals and more strictly police the definition of a qualified service animal when granting accommodations for disabled tenants."
snip-"Erik Heins, a lawyer formerly in charge of enforcing fair housing laws at HUD, said that the new policy would affect many tenants who rely on assistance animals to alleviate psychiatric or mental disabilities for example, a military veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Those cases are a not insignificant portion of the number of cases that HUD investigates through its fair housing office, Mr. Heins said, adding that the housing department could dismiss or shelve thousands of appeals for disability accommodations under the new rule."

(37,951 posts)The cats care & feeding have been motivators for getting me up & moving on many days; they need fed, they need a scooped litter pan. They definitely impact my mental health.
I do have letters from my health care providers saying the cats are necessary for me, will those letters hold up on a HUD review?

Please try not to stress about this, Iris. It will likely be a long time before the lawsuits are settled.

(419 posts)There is no need for this. It's like cutting off the suicide help line for gay teens. There was no good reason for doing that. It was done to hurt a certain population. Fucking bastards.

(4,776 posts)... to Trump's cesspool of malice and depravity. He hates animals, and ridicules people that have warm relationships with their furry, or feathered, friends. Typical psychopath. I'm certain that the physical and emotional harm he inflicts on his victims with this edict delights him no end.

I hate this motherf-er with the passion of a million burning suns.
By all means, cut people off from food stamps and Healthcare and take away their service animals so you can have a ballroom and a bunker and statues of your dumb ass all over DC. And BTW, most people DO know that dumb ends in a B, you ignorant bastard.
Taking away service animals is just plain cruelty.
What next? Going out and kicking canes right out of peoples' hands and pushing people out of wheelchairs, you lowdown dirty loathsome creature?
Shame on you and shame on your entire administration. I hope you all rot in Hell.
