What's for Dinner, Wed., New Year's Day, Jan. 1, 2025

Hoppin' John. I used a recipe from Washington Post, to which I put a link on yesterday's dinner thread. Here's a pic: In my slow cooker--almost finished.

Tossed green salad with the usual veggies: cherry tomatoes, green pepper, Persian cuke, celery, and red onion. I'm using spring mix for the greens.

Kombucha: Lavender blackberry.

Dessert: Lemon-ginger cheesecake with a little vanilla ice cream on top.

I don’t know why we only eat this great meal once a year. Great way to start the year.

I've been so sleepy today. I've been fighting to stay awake. It's been a weird day.

Hoppin' John sounds delicious!

Prime rib, baking the potato now, and sautéed in salted butter sliced yellow squash with sweet onions.

For my salad I'm making a marinade of EVOO, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, apple cider vinegar that I'll put flavor bomb tomatoes and quarted artichoke hearts in while the rest is in prep.

Whole milk over ice and water as beverages.

No dessert plans, yet.

Bon Appétit, everyone!

❤️

Roasted pork chops, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut. Gravy optional. She gave me a chocolate dipped fortune cookie.

I came home before dark. I made some waldorf salad earlier today, so had some. Finishing off with cookies and ice cream.

Happy New Year!

We drove home to NYC from the OBX and brought dinner with us from a seafood market at the docks we visited yesterday.

Appetizer
Raw oysters on the half shell. These babies are sweet with a slightly salty after-taste. Served with lemon, horseradish and cocktail sauce.

Entree
Tuna steaks marinated in teriyaki sauce then pan fried “black and blue.” Served with lemon, wasabi and pickled ginger. Sushi rice, snap peas and soy sauce on the side.

Dessert
Lemon sherbet and black tea.

Happy New Year, dear NJCher! May you and the RG have a bright year ahead!

Thick asparagus spears tossed in evoo and oven roasted. While they roasted I steam fried: chopped purple shallots, orange bell pepper, sliced mushrooms and garlic. When the asparagus were tender I cut them into 2 inch bites and tossed them with the other veggies, black beans and added some Miyoko’s butter and fresh chopped chives, parsley, and S&P. Served over whole wheat spaghetti. Having left over Apple strudel for dessert. Cheers! 🥂

And was the New Year tradition.
But haven’t done that in a minute!

I am at a Sichuan restaurant and having spicy DanDan noodles soon. Then will shop in the market here after. Need miso. Maybe look for some pickled dikon to munch at home.

with applesauce, peanut/cabbage slaw, and the rest of the sourdough from yesterday. It's a largish pork shoulder, so we'll be freezing most of it for future use.
