I'm going to pick up dips on the way home from the lumberyard, where I'll close out my budget for the year on the garden stuff.
I'm having finger foods tonight:
Chinese dumplings. Hoisin sauce.
Flatbread pizza, sausage with red pepper sauce
Cold shrimp cocktail.
Fizzy mocktail drinks using a variety of fruit juices and flavored waters. Cranberry, orange juice, mostly.

(19,620 posts)My daughter brought me a filet. I broiled it with liquid smoke and butter, then seasoned with salt and pepper on the plate. It's a real treat
I'm going to her house tomorrow for pork and sauerkraut.
Happy New Year!

(1,143 posts)Its kind of become a New Years Eve tradition. Topped with plant-based cheese, mushrooms, onions, eggplant, black olives and extra oregano. My brother made us an apple strudel for dessert. Happy New Year! Cheers! 🍻

(10,791 posts)The first of the local Dungeness crabs are available-and no more expensive than last year- so were having crab with local romaine lettuce, a small loaf of sourdough that was still warm when I bought it this morning, and a dressing that I still need to make. Ill make a stock with the crab shells, and there may be enough crab left over for some bisque tomorrow.
And cherries for dessert. I got some Chilean ranier cherries for $4/lb today. I dont know what the catch is, but local ones are $10 to $14 a pound during their short season

(564 posts)with green onions and tabasco. 2# of beans made 7 pints of beans (no rice), of which 5 are canned and put away in the pantry. We had half of the rest 2 nights ago, and most of the rest tonight. The remainder will make a nice breakfast on a work day.
Dessert was the first still-hot slices of a new loaf of bread. I needed to use up the last of the mashed sweet potatoes and that sort of thing (or pumpkin or squash) makes a very good addition to dough. The sugars help it rise really well, the flavor is good and the final color is a nice gold.
