(14,826 posts)Learned that when I became lactose intolerant. But I still like some cheeses on occasion and I will cook with milk but I can't drink it. Lots of protein sources out there, it's just the the dairy industry has held sway for so long, convincing people that milk is good for you when it really isn't.

(1,143 posts)Early onset of puberty for girls is highly attributed to dairy consumption because of growth hormones fed to cows. I gave up dairy 9 years ago, for mostly ethical reasons, but was overjoyed that within days inflammation and arthritic pain in my thumb joints and knees diminished to almost nothing and has never returned to even close to what it once was. I walk a few miles a day. Minor eczema went away as well. So many dairy alternatives out there. I know that plant-based cheeses are not close to the real thing, but they are improving. Theres a local restaurant that makes its own cashew nut based cheeses that are actually pretty good and they sell their cheeses to the public. Trader Joes shredded Parmesan is a very good alternative.
