An unpleasant outcome from sobriety: You find you have all this pain

Physical pain, yes, but I was expecting that. Herniated discs can hurt.

But the emotional pain - all of it comes flooding back, as if someone just blew up Hoover Dam...

And the slightest thing will remind you of it.

Not complaining, just observing

The words are inscribed on a granite wall at Bobby Kennedy's gravesite at Arlington. He had quoted them impromptu in a talk in Indianapolis the day Martin Luther King was killed.

Funny, because I recently had a discussion about that quote with my brother who is a Baptist minister.

Concentrate on the wonderful sober life you are building.

I know you don't believe in help from a deity, but don't let that stop you from spiritual health. Emotional and spiritual health are woven together. Make a plan to live by the courage of your convictions, be brave!

And give yourself a big pat on the back for each day of sobriety!

Just try to stay focused on what's really important in your life and live in the present. Easy to say but it's a challenge.
