Anyone watching "The Boroughs"?
I just finished E2. It's pretty good. Sort of a "Stranger Things" for the older set. Does it get better?

Episode 1 is sooooo much exposition. Then again, most streaming series do the same thing. It's a bit of a chore to get through that first episode while all the characters, plotlines, and relationships are being established.
Act 2 of the series is probably the strongest stretch. The ending gets a little corny, and quite a few things are left unexplained.
Overall, though, it's mildly satisfying. If you squint in cerain places, it's very Spielberg-y...just with seniors instaed of kids/teens.

(14,670 posts)Meh.
in turns, corny...maudelin...and frankly...as an oldster...condescending.
A messy product riddled with plot holes pushed towards a certain audience that Netflix is losing because it has forgotten how to make meaningful content.
Not mysterious, not scary, not intriguing...etc.

Full disclosure... I write horror fiction, so I am a tough critic on this sort of entertainment.

(4,511 posts)and what is up with Geena Davis' speech? sounds like she has very bad fitting dentures or something?

(4,099 posts)There are some folks for which no matter how well the dentures are fitted, you can tell they have them when they're talking. But whatever the cause, she's likely aware (and possibly embarrassed) of it, and likely would fix it if she could
Epi. 7 and 8 knocked it out of the park for me.
sister watched it and liked it. I couldnt even get through the first episode. I never watched Stranger Things, so not sure what that is about.

(98 posts)Good actors in a weak story. The actors are adults but the story is like a sci fi for junior high. We were disappointed.
I concur about Geena Daviss speech sounding odd. Bad dentures? Implants?

(570 posts)As I've aged, I like to see older actors. It entertained me for a few hours, exactly what I needed.

Very good movie, funny, scary, but heartfelt, with characters you care about.

(17,542 posts)the stuff available on streaming networks. It's definitely a "Stranger Things" for the older set -- which is probably why it was a limited series (1 season). Was it all believable? No, but if that's the standard, most shows don't meet it fully. Think of it as a comic book. It was about as believable as Superman, Batman, Flash or any of them. If you liked comic books as a kid, you may like this series more than just a little.

(4,099 posts)It's a bit of a "Stranger Things with older characters" type of story (though not as good IMHO), which makes some sense given the Duffer Brothers were executive producers. It's well-acted and entertaining, just don't go into it expecting much more than that. I mean, there's a bit of an underlying allegory regarding society not paying enough attention to the fate of the elderly, and how consuming the desire can be to maintain one's youth, but this news won't be terribly enlightening to too many viewers.
