India-China: The Return of Girls, baby girls are desirable once more

shortage of 70 million women in China, relative to men, due to the "one child policy" established in 1979. now there are 30 year old men with no marriage prospects.

India-China: The Return of Girls, baby girls are desirable once more

In India and China, after decades of preference for boys, baby girls are desirable once more. The lack of girls in the two most populous countries in the world, a serious demographic problem, is beginning to be addressed: More and more girls are being born.

But it was actually their daughters in law who were doing the caregiving. No daughters-in-law, no care.

I seem to remember something on pbs, a documentary I believe, where the crew was filming the consternation over the lack of girls/women. The scene i remember was in a rural village in India where they had all the children of about five to seven years old in a circle doing lessons or may have been playing a game. Out of about twenty children, only 5 were girls. One of the elders did touch briefly on the fact that girls were not wanted and often infant girls were/are killed so that the mother could the more quickly possibly get pregnant with a boy. I believe the same was happening in China, due to the one child policy (which was rescinded a few years ago).
So, so stupid.

In China, women are demanding more for marriage..wanting the man to already own a home.
