(14,255 posts)1. I used to work in Tokyo. The train stations are wonderful! Food stalls, shops, people!
To move through the crowd, I sort of approached it as if I were in a school of fish - don't look around, keep moving, keep my eye on my destination, and make tiny adjustments for people all around me as I moved forward, using peripheral vision.
I did avoid the subway crush in the morning by showing up right at 7 am; by 7:30, things were jammed up. No such thing as personal space. I would go back in a heartbeat.

(27,247 posts)2. I'm surprised that Takadanobaba Station is busier than Ueno Station
I don't know how they calculated the number of users-- probably based on the number of people going through turnstiles. But there are lots and lots of commuters who use Ueno Station to change trains and never go through a turnstile there.
