The Texas House and Senate have approved a bill that would let school districts employ chaplains as a way to ease the shortage of counselors in schools, sending the bill to Gov. Greg Abbott to become law.
While some lawmakers and rights advocacy groups have raised concerns about the use of religious-affiliated staff in public schools, law experts say the bill skirts along a legal gray area concerning faith in campuses.

(10,252 posts)be one of those clerics. And if the school were in a rural evangelical district, a catholic priest need not apply. Can you imagine the number of law suits from competing denominations about descrimination towards their particular sect?
Would you want your child being advised by a Jehovah's Witness or 7th Day Adventist that they are going to hell for some this or that?
This bill is such a can of worms.

(2,809 posts)But with the brain drains caused by GOP attacks on educators, and growing christofacist theocracy in GOP legislation, there will be need for people to fill school personnel vacancies in TX and FL. But pastors--they should have warning labels on their foreheads--may be hazardous to mental, physical, emotional health of young children if left unsupervised.
