The Lincoln Fire and Rescue union on Thursday explained the reasons for the February no-confidence vote in Chief Dave Engler in a letter to the mayor and City Council.
Lincoln Fire Fighters Association President Adam Schrunk said the union had five primary concerns: loss of paramedics since 2021, poor hiring numbers, poor department morale, poor workplace culture and legal fees from Engler's decisions.
"The measure passed by a margin of 3-to-1," Schrunk wrote in a letter to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the City Council, which he shared with the Journal Star on Thursday. "This decision was not made lightly and has been years in the making."
Schrunk harkened back to the lead-up to the spring 2023 city election, when Engler was about two years into his time as chief.
