SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - NIPSCO and United Steelworkers finalized an agreement for employees who work in the field, ending the lockout for some union members.

The groups reached the agreement on April 16 and finalized it on April 24.

Negotiations started on Jan. 20 for the contract that expired on March 31. NIPSCO extended the agreement to April 2, but no resolution was reached by that time, resulting in nearly about 1,600 union employees getting locked out.

Contract negotiations are ongoing for clerical workers, leaving them subject to the lockout’s terms while field workers return to work.
