The non-profit community needs the participation of more men.

Because I'm a parent of a child with Autism, I recently took over as executive director of a little nonprofit dedicated to the benefit of people with developmental disabilities (I spent many years on our board of directors) and although the lions share of our clientele are men and boys, I see a distinct bias in the industry toward the sensibilities of moms and "social services" graduates, the vast majority of whom are women.

I'm the first to admit that I have a steep learning curve about the government programs that our clients/customers/participants interact with, I'm bringing a healthy change of perspective that is benefitting the organization and the people we serve.

Men are far more likely to be unemployed than women so put that spare time to use and volunteer.
