She has it set to choo choo. and when i go there it comes out loud and clear.

If the phone is set to have "Do not disturb" turned on, it WILL ring if somebody listed in the Contacts list calls (and won't ring if anyone else calls) but it won't make a sound when receiving texts from anybody, including numbers in the Contacts list. "Do not disturb" is controlled from the Settings.

Really annoying.

Why does it work that way? I can't have my phone ring for every telemarketer and bonus "FBI/IRS" call.

There's no option to only ring for contacts. I have Do Not Disturb to only ring for contacts, but that seems to be the problem with getting a sound for new messages.

Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers. ON

I do have to be careful to add the phone number of a doctor, etc that I am expecting to call to my contacts.

I asked everyone and every 20 something I knew, nothing. I figured it out days after I got my new phone.

another was I was only showing calls that came in. I was not showing calls that I made. Again, asked everyone and nothing. Weeks with it like this and so frustrated. At the top there is a place that says all/missed that I had accidentally click.
